Yr 3 and 4 A Fantastic Finale to the Cricket Season! – Written by Mrs Gardner

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautifully warm afternoon for our Year 3 and 4 final matches of the season. The children put on a fantastic display, showcasing everything they have learned over the term. It was particularly wonderful to hear our less experienced cricketers growing in confidence—calling clearly for runs, shouting encouragement to their teammates, and smartly reminding fielders to ‘walk in’.

This term has been all about growth: extending the skills of those who have played before, while introducing exciting new terminology and techniques to those newer to the sport. As always, our children represented the school brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed their traditional last doughnut of the year!

A huge thank you to all the parents and supporters who came along to cheer them on.

U9A Cricket – Written by Mr Matthews

The U9A cricket team rounded off their season with an excellent performance against King’s on a very warm afternoon. Both sides played some impressive cricket, but the Queen’s boys were outstanding throughout. Our bowling was particularly impressive, with very few extras conceded thanks to the accuracy and consistency shown by every player. Facing a strong bowling attack ourselves, the boys batted with confidence and intelligence. With the large boundary making fours and sixes difficult to find, they showed great awareness to place the ball into gaps and keep the scoreboard moving.

Equally pleasing was the standard of our fielding. The boys were sharp, energetic and focused all afternoon, taking catches, effecting run outs and preventing countless singles through their excellent work in the field. Special mentions go to Alex for leading the team superbly as captain, Isaac for his relentless positivity and encouragement in the field, Joseph for claiming a fine caught-and-bowled wicket, and Harry and Austin for their excellent bowling, both delivering maiden overs. It was a pleasure to step in and take the team for this fixture, and the boys should be incredibly proud of their efforts. It was clear to see the impact of the excellent work Mr Venning has done with the group this season, with the team displaying not only strong cricketing skills but also great teamwork, enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the afternoon.

U12 Cricket v Exeter School – Written by Mr Smith

Saturday afternoon saw a commanding performance by the U12 team against Exeter School. Exeter batted first under the blazing sun and Queen’s opening bowlers, Luca and Seb, soon had their opponents in trouble. Pace and accuracy were their hallmarks and at 14 for 5, the Exeter innings did not look like it would last for much longer with Seb picking up three wickets and Luca two. The remaining Queen’s bowlers kept the pressure on but Exeter, to their credit, recovered steadily and finished on 67 for 8 after their 20 overs with Toby getting two wickets and Harvey one. The Queen’s team deserve a great deal of praise for their disciplined bowling performance and enthusiasm in the field to restrict Exeter to an eminently achievable target.

A couple of early wickets, reducing the Queen’s team to 17 for 2, gave rise to initial concerns that the run chase was not going to be all plain sailing but Seb (29 not out) and Luca (18 not out) steadied the ship, mixing powerful boundary hitting with quick singles and ultimately led the team to victory in 9.3 overs.

This was an impressive display from every member of the Queen’s team and their application across all disciplines – bowling, fielding and batting – was commendable and contributed to a satisfying victory.

Exeter 67 for 8 (20 overs) Seb 3 for 7, Luca 2 for 11, Toby 2 for 10, Harvey 1 for 3

Queen’s 70 for 2 (9.3 overs) Seb 29 not out, Luca 18 not out

U11A Boys- Kings Bruton Festival – CGF

U11B Boys- Perrott Hill

It came down to the last ball of the last over in the last match.

Perrott Hill batted first and set a very good total for Queen’s to chase down. But as their innings progressed it became obvious that it was going to be a close finish. You could feel the excitement growing in the ‘crowd’ (3 parents and 1 dog!).

3 runs needed off the last 3 balls………..2 runs needed off the last 2 balls……………1 run needed off the last ball…….. And with a legside sweep the run was taken…….. What a way to finish a great season!

Well done boys. You have played some excellent cricket with a great spirit and determination to improve and learn. It’s been a pleasure.

U10A and B Girls- Exeter Cathedral LJG

A Fantastic Finale for Year 5 Cricket!

What a wonderful end to the season for our Year 5 girls! Splitting into two teams, they put on a fantastic display of cricket, playing matches against Exeter Cathedral School before facing off in a fun, competitive finale.

As always with these young cricketers, the team spirit was brilliant. It was fantastic to hear them constantly supporting one another—calling clearly for runs, backing each other up in the field, and genuinely having a great time out in the sunshine.

This fixture also marked a poignant moment as we said goodbye to our friends from Exeter Cathedral School. With the school sadly closing its doors, we want to thank them for being such a pleasure to host over the years; they will be greatly missed on our fixtures circuit.

Our Year 5 girls have been an absolute joy to coach this season. I am already looking forward to next year and seeing what this talented group will achieve as they move up the school. Well done, ladies—a spectacular season!

U11A Girls – Perrott Hill TOB

U11B Girls Perrott Hill HJC

The U11B girls concluded their cricket season—and their time at Prep School—with a wonderful final match against Perrott Hill. Basking in the glorious afternoon sunshine, the game was filled with laughter, nostalgic smiles, and some truly fantastic cricket as the Year 6 girls played together for the very last time.

Fielding first, the girls showed great focus and teamwork. Annie and Aria led the bowling attack beautifully, both claiming well-deserved wickets. Behind the stumps and across the field, Ashlyn put on a fantastic display of backing up, remaining incredibly mindful of the ball and supporting her bowlers perfectly at every delivery.

When it became time to bat, the girls chased their target with confidence and flair. There was some exceptionally strong batting on display, with Ashlyn, Pixie, and Eva all finding the boundary with some superb hits for 4. Aria and Annie also contributed to the scoreboard with some beautiful, clean hits of their own.

To top off a brilliant afternoon, specific match awards were given out for outstanding individual performances:

  • Batter of the Match: Ashlyn
  • Bowler of the Match: Annie
  • Fielder of the Match: Emilie

Thank you girls, it has been a privilege to coach you over the past two years. Thank you for the memories!

Prep swim squad – Written by Mrs Gardner

A Spectacular Finale at the Primary Schools Gala!

Last week, our swimming squad took their final bow of the season as we hosted the annual Primary Schools Gala. As always, it was a fantastic privilege to welcome such a brilliant range of swimmers from schools across the local area for a day of wonderful competition.

Both of our teams swam their hearts out, representing the school with immense pride, determination, and excellent sportsmanship for one last time this year.

Success in the pool doesn’t happen by accident; our swimmers work incredibly hard week in, week out during training, and we want to extend a huge thank you to every single one of them for their unwavering dedication this season.

Finally, we want to say a special goodbye to our Year 6 leavers. We wish you all the very best of luck as you move on, and we truly hope you continue your swimming journeys wherever you are next year!
