Year 13 A-level Business, Economics, Psychology and Sociology students all attended Tutor2U Grade Booster revision conferences at the Vue cinema in Bristol this week. They experienced a full day of interactive revision of some of the more difficult exam topics. This was a full, sometimes gruelling, intensive but fun day. Queen’s students rose to the challenge, enthusiastically participating in every activity. Notably, they were often the first ones to put themselves out there by answering questions in front of the whole conference. Every single Queen’s student took an active role, and hopefully, they have come away having reaped the rewards of their efforts, that they will be able to put into practice in their final exams. Several students won prizes for their involvement, with Joel, Will T, Toey and Franky G all achieving notable successes.

Year 12 had a fun afternoon at Pitcher and Piano learning some bar skills. All students made a mocktail and explored using the Boston can shakers, strainers and different types of syrups. Did you know that you must sieve a cocktail at the end to prevent glass sized shards of ice? The mocktail they made had a passionfruit base and was enjoyed by all. Students were welcomed to register their interest for employment and learnt more about working in the industry. This activity was part of their Queen’s Diploma which prepares our young adults for the world of work through exposure, experience and skill development.

Year 12 attended the UCAS University Fair on Wednesday in Exeter. There were over 100 universities present alongside apprentice opportunities. Students’ highlights included exploring universities they hadn’t previously considered, using the UCAS portal to get top tips about university applications and of course, getting a freebie pair of sunglasses from Plymouth Marjon. The trip is one part of their next steps preparations.
